The Finns are so lucky to have such a lot of talented designers and design houses in almost all walks of life. Some designs have 'always' been there with newcomers settling in.
The Finnish glass making dates back to 17th century. We have always been good in utilising our natural resources for design purposes. Raiso has given us a margarine, Benecol, which decreases blood cholesterol levels.Birch gives us xylitol sweetener.Nokia has given information technology a powerful boost all over the world. Angry Birds gives us entertainment, fun products.
The Moomins give us a very philosophical views to life. Abloy/Assa gives us security.
Etc Etc
It must be our northern location with distinct seasons, powerful nature, which encourages creativity and individuality. As a relatively young nation we can experiment and be a bit crazy, too. That's how we can make our national identity stronger and thriving.
